Gesser Elite QB and Skills Camp a smash
Jason Gesser (Cougfan.com/Gunderson)

BELLEVUE (Scout.com) - Jason Gesser's voice was nearly shot, done in from a day of constantly talking and yelling out instruction and encouragment. It's the price he paid to help the top quarterbacks and skill players from the Greater Seattle area have a day full of fun at Interlake High School.
During the inaugural
Elite QB and Skill Camp - one run by Gesser and a host of current and former
Cougars - was a day-long event Saturday. It included a dynamic warmup, individual instruction, a period of one-on-one and seven-on-seven, as well as a camp-closing skills challenge.
Many day-long camps sometimes have a tendency to lag around the mid-way point, losing steam as the players start to lose interest. That definitely wasn't the case with the Gesser camp, which had pleny of fun and challenging events to stoke everyone's competitive spirit.
"I was impressed, very impressed," Gesser told Scout.com. The former Cougar quarterbacking star - now with the Utah Blaze of the AFL - was very happy with how the day went. "I was impressed with the turnout and with the attitude and talent. I appreciate the fact that these kids are working hard, and if they have the heart and determination, we want to help them get better to help prolong their careers, no matter where that might be. That's my goal."
"I got a lot of work with my motion and my footwork,"
said. Gervais is a junior-to-be quarterback at Lakes High School, and he earned one of the two quarterback MVP awards given out at the end of the day's events. "I knew that working on routes with the receivers was going to be second."
"I learned a lot about technique," added
, also a junior-to-be from Lakes. "Technique is the key to knowing how to run routes."
, Cole Morgan, Milton Wynn and Collin Henderson were the current and former Washington State players that joined Gesser and local high school coaches like Sheldon Cross (Interlake), Mike Riggell (Interlake) and Nyika Long (Franklin) to run the camp.
"This was a new experience for me," Rogers said. "But I really enjoyed it. Anytime you can give back and help Jason out, it's great. And when you come out and teach quarterbacks, you also learn from them and take things with you."
"Guys that pay attention, they will always have an edge," Gesser added. "Hopefully they took a lot from the camp."
Because of the success of this camp, coupled with Sunday's youth camp, Gesser has plans to expand into other events, like combines and more elite camps. He is in the process of setting up a series of camps called '30 for 30', in which the number of players will be kept to 30 to ensure a lot of hands-on teaching.
"This is just the kick-off," he said.
