Looking Far and Wide

"I'm still going through the process of narrowing it down," cornerback Demontre Hurst said. "I just want to make the right choice and just go through the whole process. I plan to take my visits and decide after the season." Although Hurst continues to deny a leader, he favors TCU (15 minutes from home but distance won't be a factor), Arizona, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Wake Forest.

Demontrae Hurst, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound three-star cornerback from Lancaster, Texas, attended camps at Arizona and Baylor and says the Wildcats are amongst his favorites.

"I love it at Arizona," Hurst said. "It was real nice and the coaches are all cool. I got to know them pretty well and just like how they are all laid-back and friends with their players."

Although Hurst continues to deny a leader, he favors TCU, Arizona, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Wake Forest. All of his favorites have offered (15 total).

"I'm still going through the process of narrowing it down," he said. "I just want to make the right choice and just go through the whole process. I plan to take my visits and decide after the season."

Iowa, Utah, SMU, Baylor, Kansas and Nebraska are just a few of his other offers.

"TCU is only like 15 minutes away," Hurst said. "Plus, they always seem to produce some pretty good cornerbacks and have a good defense. They also have real nice facilities and campus too."

The Horned Frogs are Hurst's local team, but he insists that distance isn't going to be an issue. "I thought about the distance and I talked about it with my mom and we agreed that it won't be an issue," he said. "Things like distance and location won't be a factor."

Distance not being a factor bodes well for Wake Forest, where Hurst has already scheduled an official visit on September 6 for the Ole Miss game. "I know that Wake Forest has real good academics," he said. "I talked to (secondary) coach Tim Billings and he said that it would be a great opportunity for me to start as a freshman and that would be awesome. That would be a real plus because I'd love to play early."

Hurst, Scout.com's No. 36 cornerback, says the school that Kansas State is recruiting him the hardest. "They send me the most mail and keep in contact," he said. "I like that they have a great track program too. I'd really like to be able to continue my track career in college.

"I've talked to most of the coaches about it and they said that as long as I can keep up with me schoolwork, they're cool with me running track," Hurst said.

Hurst runs the 100m (10.8), 200m (21.6) and 400m (48.0).

"I'm looking for a program that has a good sports management major," he said. "I also want a good social environment outside of football. I want to play for good coaches that I get along with, but I'm the kind of guy who will fit in with any coaching style. I don't have a preference."

Another school that Hurst is likely to visit in the fall is Wisconsin. "I don't know much about them except that they always have a great defense," he said. "They are a top program in the Big Ten every year and always go to bowl games."

Hurst's first game is on August 29 against Carter High School from Dallas, Texas.

He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 1290 SAT.
