, the 6-foot-6, 305 pound offensive tackle from Lexington, Texas, has narrowed his choices to two schools and is getting close to making a decision.
"I'm not sure if I'll even take any visits," Brown admitted. "I'll probably decide within the next month. Once I feel completely comfortable, I'll commit."
Brown says he narrowed it down to Baylor and Ole Miss, but he's not tipping his hand towards either program, at least publicly. "I want to sit back for a while and really evaluate Baylor and Ole Miss," he said.
"I'm especially interested in making sure I get along with the coaches because I'll be spending a lot of time with them," Brown said. "I want to make sure we have a good relationship."
Brown, Scout.com's No. 75 offensive tackle, says he favors the Bears and Rebels solidly over Oklahoma, Stanford and Arizona. Only the Sooners haven't offered. "They are only recruiting me a little," he admitted. "I'm not sure what's going to happen.
"Stanford and Arizona are both good programs, but I never got a chance to get out there and doubt I will," he said. "Right now it's really 50/50 between Baylor and Ole Miss."
The Bears are only about one hour from Brown's home and he suggests that will be somewhat of a factor. "I like that they are close," he said. "I've been there a lot and just feel the most comfortable there.
"I also have a friend who goes there (freshman linebacker Jenner Jones)," Brown said. "He's a good friend and it would be cool to play with him, but he told me not to go there just because of him."
One of Brown's coaches at Lexington attended Baylor and Brown says that's another reason he likes the Bears. "My coach has a lot of great things to say about them," he said. "He thinks I'd really like it there."
Although Ole Miss isn't as close to home as Baylor, Brown says he loves the environment at Mississippi. "I loved it there," he said. "It's a really beautiful area and real nice. There are trees everywhere and the campus is real clean. It's just a lot nicer than Texas."
Besides the cleanliness, Brown says he was surprised by the friendliness of everyone he met at Ole Miss. "The people there are just real friendly," he said. "I was surprised how personable they are and how they all treated us like family.
"(Head) Coach Houston Nutt and (offensive line) coach Mike Markuson are both real cool and laid-back," Brown said. "They seem like great coaches and said that I'd have a chance to get some early playing time if I went there."
Brown says he's looking forward to seeing how these teams do this season. "I'll be watching Baylor and Ole Miss closely," he said. "They both have new coaches and I want to see how they do."
He also has offers from Houston, Tulane, Stanford and Arizona.
Lexington's first game is on Friday, September 5.
Brown says he wants to major in engineering and reports a 3.5 core GPA and a 24 ACT.
