Playing in a loaded secondary that included UnderArmour All-American Anthony Dye and top 2009 cornerback Sean Martin has taken some of the spotlight from Corona (Calif.) Santiago cornerback Sean Murray.
But Murray knows that another big season like his junior year will return the spotlight to him.
“The schools haven’t really seen me play as much because I haven’t been to the college camps, and we had other guys on our team last year that got a lot of attention,” said Murray. “But it’s been a good attention to the school that they’ve brought.”
Murray hasn’t been ignored, though, with a handful of schools showing interest in him.
“I’m hearing from Boise State, Oregon State, Arizona, some schools like that,” said Murray. “Arizona State, UCLA and Oregon, I was hearing from them and I’m sure when the season starts, I can get my name out there more.”
While Murray didn’t get to any college camps, he took in his fair share of other camps, having one of the top 5 forty times at the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine in Los Angeles, working out at the L.A. Nike Camp and then having a good showing at the B2G Elite Football Program.
“I’m just taking it stride, staying patient and working hard,” said Murray. “I know it will work out for me.”
Murray said while most schools look at him as a defensive back, Boise State likes him as an athlete.
“I could play safety, I would do whatever,” said Murray. “I just want to get on the field.”
This fall, Murray will play cornerback again for the Sharks and will also see some time at receiver while being the backup quarterback.
During his junior season, he had 96 tackles, 12 pass breakups and three interceptions while helping the Sharks to the CIF-SS Inland Division Finals.
Academically, Murray is in solid shape with a 3.3 GPA and the SAT set to be taken in October.
