Valencia (Calif.) West Ranch athlete Ross Bacon (5-11, 185) is preparing for his senior season, focused on the task at hand.
One of the tasks is to land an offer, which the running back/cornerback is still waiting for.
“It’s been going pretty good, I’ve been talking to some colleges,” said Bacon. “Schools like Washington and Arizona, Nevada, San Diego State, they’ve all been talking with me.”
The Wildcats have been showing a good deal of interest in him, Bacon having camped in Tucson.
“Arizona is looking at me more for both ways,” said Bacon. “I played a lot of running back and DB at their camp,” said Bacon.
Bacon said the schools he’s the most interested in are Arizona, Washington, San Diego State, Nevada, UCLA and Washington State, with Washington and Arizona recruiting him the hardest.
A versatile athlete, Bacon said he’s open to whatever position a school feels he’s best suited for.
“I really don’t care, I’ll play DB, running back, return kicks or return punts, I just want to get on the field,” said Bacon.
Bacon said he’s staying patient during the process, comfortable with how things have been going in his recruiting.
“Most schools have been busy lately because of practice and most are sending me letters, but yeah, I definitely think things will pick up when the season starts,” said Bacon.
At the Los Angeles UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine, Bacon had top five marks in three of the testing events. He had the #5 shuttle with a 4.10, the #5 L-Cone with a 7.03 and the #4 broad jump at 9-9. He also had a strong showing at the B2G Elite Football Program in June. Bacon also camped at UCLA.
During his junior season in 2007 West Ranch, Bacon ran for 906 yards and 11 touchdowns, caught 11 passes for 98 yards and a score, averaged 19.8 yards on punt return, including a 55-yard score, and averaged 20.1 yards on kickoff returns.
Bacon and his West Ranch teammates will be tested right off the bat, facing Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame and then Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Los Osos before entering into the always-tough Foothill League.
