Kyle Koehne, the 6-foot-6, 300 pound three-star offensive tackle from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Ind., says he now has 10 scholarship offers although only two of those offers come from his current top five preferences.
Koehne said he now favors Florida slightly over Boston College (offer), Michigan, Notre Dame and Louisville (offer). He also has offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Indiana, North Carolina State, Cincinnati and a few others.
Koehne, Scout.com's No. 37 offensive tackle, previously favored Indiana and Iowa, but now neither the Hoosiers nor the Hawkeyes have made the cut. "I still like Indiana and Iowa," Koehne said. "But these are the main schools I’m looking at. I started hearing from a lot more schools and just feel the best about these."
He feels confident he'll get offers from his other favorites. "I went to camp at Florida, Michigan and Notre Dame and did well," he said. "I feel good about them. I think they just want to see a bit more during my season and will offer."
Koehne also attended the Boston College camp and has an official visit scheduled for the Georgia Tech game on Sept. 6. "Boston College has a great program," he said. "I like everything there. It's a beautiful campus, they have great facilities, the coaches are real good, I like the players…they have it all.
"I also think the team is good too," he said. "I think they'll have a pretty good season."
Although it's not official yet, Koehne says he'll likely visit Louisville for their big rivalry game against Kentucky (Aug. 31). "Louisville has really picked up their recruiting recently," he said. "They've started to send me a lot of handwritten letters and stuff."
Koehne says he'll definitely take a few official visits before he makes a decision. "Right now I'm still pretty open," he said. "I want to take some visits and see who else offers."
So which school does Koehne think is closest to offering him next? "Florida," he said. "They said that there's a strong chance they will offer. They seem to like me a lot and I think the coaches there are great. Plus, I love their tradition and it's just a great place overall."
Even though Koehne only attended Notre Dame's day camp, he said he was quite impressed with the Irish. "It was great," he said. "It was a very good experience. I liked getting to know the coaches better and I definitely think they'll do well this year. They work really hard and the coaches are very smart."
Another Midwest program that Koehne got a chance to visit was Michigan. "I really like the new coaches," he said. "They have a great program there and they are always a top team and I'm sure the new staff will keep it that way. I really have a lot of respect for their coaches."
Koehne's first game is on Aug. 23 against Carmel High School, which he says will be televised on ESPN.
Koehne reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 21 ACT.
