Update With Antwan Smith

We all know about Malcolm Willis and Darrell Givens at Lackey High School, but don’t sleep on Antwan Smith going into the 2008 season. This versatile athlete was only able to camp once this summer due an unfortunately family emergency, but he has the talent it takes to play ball on the next level.

Antwan Smith, 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Md., could end up playing safety, cornerback or wide receiver at the next level and is being recruited as al three. While he was only able to camp at one school this summer, he does plan on taking visits this year.

“I camped at Richmond and they really seemed to like me there because when everyone else left they had me stay to do some 1-on-1 drills with some of the better players there,” Smith explained. “They just told me that they would definitely be keeping a close eye on me and wanted to see me in person before offering. I really liked it a lot down there.”

“I had set up to camp at Temple too, but unfortunately I had a death in the family and it was the last camp, so I never made it down. I talked to the coaching staff and they told me to just go ahead and send them some game film instead. They also said they wanted to come down here and try to get with me in person at a game.”

“Purdue has also been sending a lot of mail lately,” Smith said. “They’re a Big Ten program and I’d love to play against Malcolm Willis and Darrell Givens because we really have a nice sibling rivalry going. Florida Atlantic has also been sending a lot lately.”

Smith made 105 tackles, intercepted five passes and broke up three more on his way to second-team All-County honors at safety as a junior.
