Florida LB has a leader
"We're looking OK," Antwon Higgs said. "We've really struggled in previous years so we're hoping to do some things this year. We have a lot of seniors on the team this year so we're pretty mature." Higgs is hoping his team can improve from what they've done the last couple seasons. "We won just one game last year and didn't win any the year before," he said. "We have 18 seniors returning this season and hopefully we can win more." Higgs will be playing both ways again this season. "On offense, I won't be used as just a blocker at tight end," he said. "They plan on moving me around, putting me in the slot, doing different things. I'm excited to see what happens." Higgs, 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, landed his 16th offer earlier this week when Kentucky came through. He talked about the recruiting process. "South Carolina is my top school," he said. "They're the leader. I just like the program, the coaches, and how they use guys like me in btheir defense. Plus, my friend Dontee Nicholls is up there. Our parents were classmates and I grew up with him. After South Carolina, there's a bunch that I'm still looking at -- Louisville, West Virginia, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Florida, schools like that." Higgs said all of those schools, except Florida, have offered him a scholarship. "Florida was talking about offering me at defensive end," he said. "I wanna play linebacker so I'm not sure what to think of that." The standout linebacker talked about the things he'll be looking for when it comes time to make a decision. "I wanna have a chance to start," he said. "I don't wanna be just another guy, I wanna have a chance to come in and make an impact." Higgs plans on graduating high school early this year. "That's the plan," he said. "I have a 3.7 GPA right now and an 850 SAT score but I'm gonna take it again and hopefully get over 1,000."
