Hamilton Southeastern may have went against conventional wisdom, but they have a victory to show for it.
Coming into the final game of the Marsh Indiana Invitational (a four game high school kickoff at brand new Lucas Oil Stadium), all eyes were on Avon defensive end Montez Robinson, the four star pass rusher extraordinaire for the Orioles.
So what did Southeastern do? They passed over and over again. Using quick drops and rolling away from Robinson's side, the Royales passed for 230 yards on the night.
Robinson still made his presence felt, as he recorded five tackles, a forced fumble and a nearly game ending play for Avon. Late in the 4th quarter, with the Orioles up 27-23, Hamilton Southeastern was in scoring territory with a key 4th down. Robinson blew around the corner and sacked Southeastern QB Jordan Hoffman to give the ball back to Avon with less than a minute to play.
However, an Avon fumble on the next series gave the Royales the ball back with 37 seconds to play. Hoffman, who we mentioned back in our 7-7 report from the summer, lead a game winning drive culminating with a touchdown pass to J.T. Macy just as time expired.
Hoffman finished 13 of 21 for 230 yards and the touchdown. Wide receiver Chad Sherrer had five receptions for 143 yards. Avon sophomore wide receiver Kendall Griffin had three catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
