Klein Forest used a powerful offensive line, a great tailback and timely passing to rack up 341 yards of total offense to only 137 for Howland. Howland had no answer for tailback Dominic Wilkins who ran for 119 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The talented senior also caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from the accurate right arm of quarterback Vernell Caldwell.
Klein Forest opened up the scoring in the first quarter as Wilkins broke free and scored from 58-yards out. Jacob Decker added the PAT. Four minutes later Caldwell found Christian Evans wide open down the sideline for a 46-yard touchdown. Decker added the PAT and the Golden Eagles would hold a 14-0 lead. Neither team scored in the second quarter as the score remained 14-0 at the half.
Klein Forest opened up the third quarter with a five play drive that ate up 79 yards as Levon Castillo scored on a 28-yard run. Decker again added the PAT as the Golden Eagles opened up a 21-0 lead. As the third quarter was coming to a close Caldwell hit a wide open Wilkins from 21-yards out to make the score 27-0. Castillo’s two-point conversion run attempt was stuffed.
The teams traded punts a few times in the fourth as both teams made wholesale substitutions. Howland finally dented the scoreboard as time expired. Justin Long scored on a one yard run. The two-point conversion attempt failed setting the final score at 27-6 in favor of Klein Forest.
Scout.com MVP of the Game: Klein Forest RB Dominic Wilkins
Scout’s Take: Wilkins showed us that he deserves to be mentioned among the nation’s top running backs. This kid has some tools and he can do things that not a lot of backs can do. Wilkins only has three offers from Kansas, Houston and Baylor, but let us be the first to say that you can expect that to change in the very near future. He will be an exciting one to watch this season.
