Last year Johnny Thomas caught 46 passes for 680 yards and 10 touchdowns. This year he looks to eclipse those numbers but not at the expense of not being a team player. Players like Thomas are vital to successful teams.
"I really want to focus on being a team player," said
Johnny Thomas
. Our first week we struggled at times. I had 4 catches for 40 yards. Our QB and I are working on getting on the same page. We'll get there."
The 6'3 180lb WR is hearing from 15-20 schools. Thomas' 4.5 speed gives him the rare blend of size and speed that is coveted by many of the nations top programs.
"My top seven are
Southern Miss
,
Troy
,
Kansas State
,
Louisiana Tech
,
Memphis
,
Louisville
, and
LSU
. Troy is my only offer. I think Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech are close to offering."
The Scout.com three star WR plans to graduate in May.
"I'm graduating in May. I will have time to take all of my visits. I don't have any set up right now but I've spoken with Kansas State about visiting after my season is over. I don't know much about Kansas State but I look forward to learning more about them."
Has Thomas connected with any of the coaching staffs?
"I like the Kansas State coaches. I also really like the Troy coaches. They have the same offensive system we run. It would be an easy transition. All of the Troy coaches know my coaches so I feel comfortable with them."
Thomas appears to be a possession WR. His frame gives him the ability to make a catch in traffic and his speed allows him to stretch the field. Despite having both size and speed, Thomas believes he is more of a possession WR.
"I think I'm a big play guy. When I say big play, I mean getting the needed first down. I'm not the fastest guy on the field but I'm going to run good routes and make the big catch."
