The 2007 Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year in the State of Georgia has been busy picking up scholarship offers in the past month.

"I now have offers from Ole Miss, Boston College, Oklahoma State, Indiana, Central Florida, Arizona State, and Miami Ohio," added Joel Kight. "Vandy is also showing me a lot of interest and they are getting pretty close."

The latest offer came from an SEC school.

"Ole Miss offered me last week. They came over to my school and offered me. Coach Rocker and I actually met when he came over here for our Spring game. I have heard a lot of good things about him from my coaches."

What did the Ole Miss defensive line coach say to Kight?

"He said we have got to have you. They like everything I do. They like how physical I am at LB. I really do not now much about Ole Miss other than Eli went there, but I do know that Coach Nutt is now there. Coach Nutt recruited my older brother, Kelvin Knight. Coach Nutt came over to our house and Kelvin went over there and took a couple of visits to Arkansas, so I got to know him pretty good while my brother was being recruited by Arkansas. Kelvin ended up at Florida and then he played for the New England Patriots."

Colleges are mixed about where they project the 5' 10", 210 pound Lithonia (GA) product. As a junior, Kight had 153 tackles, 8 sacks, 24 for loss, and also rushed for over 700 yards and 15 TD's."

"Most of them like me at linebacker but a few schools have offered me for running back. I think my speed and quickness (ran a 4.56 at scout combine) are my e

Joel has had a few calls this week.

"Boston College, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Indiana, UCF, Duke, Louisville, Wake Forest all called this week."

Who are the main schools involved right now?

"I am just keeping an open mind, and after I take my official visits, I will sit down with my father and talk things over. Duke is looking at me hard. Boston College, OSU, Ole Miss, Indiana, and Vandy has really turned it on."

What stands out about B.C.?

"Coach Don recruits me for BC and we talk a lot. He is real big on me. He said I have a chance to play tailback next year, and not only play, but be a major factor in their offense and I will get my degree. They have a good academic reputation."

Oklahoma State?

"I talk to Coach Spencer a lot, their DL coach. He really thinks I can make an impact at OLB. He thinks I can be a star for their defense."

Duke?

"I talk to Coach Montgomery, and he wants me to play OLB. He says I will not only have a chance to play at Duke, but I will be a 4 year starter if I work hard."

Vandy?

"They want me to play RB. I am not the tallest LB so they want me to play RB. He said that he wants to see some more film on me, but I have been talking to him a lot through email lately."

Indiana?

"They also want me to play RB. Coach Bobby Johnson also likes the way I run, real physical. He said as long as I work hard, I will have a chance to play my freshman year."

Film Analysis

Joel is a side line to sideline defensive player who can change directions quickly. He is also a very physical runner and hitter at linebacker.

It will be intersting to see where Kight ends up on the college level, offense or defense.
