Scout.com's #40 nationally rated middle linebacker has seen his team get off to a 2-0 start.
"The games have been OK," added
DeMarcus Knight
. Our defensive line is not as strong as usual so it is harder to get the tackles, but other than that, we are getting better as a defense."
The Ole Miss commit has seen several improvements in his game.
"I am focusing on reading the ball better than was last year. I am making as many tackles as I can. I have around 25 (tackles) and 2 sacks so far."
The 6' 2", 230 pound Morristown product focused on one thing this summer.
"I worked out the whole time. I am in the best shape of my life. I am benching around 350 now. My squad was 500 pounds in August, which is about 50 more than last year."
When was the last time Knight heard from the school he is committed to?
"I spoke with Coach Austin about two weeks ago. I am still pretty firm (with my commitment). He told me that he could not wait to get me over there. Coach Austin told me about their new video board. We talked about when I am going to take my official visit to Ole Miss. We are talking about taking it in Mid-December."
DeMarcus has not had a chance to attend any of the Ole Miss games this fall, but he did get a chance to watch them on TV against Wake Forest.
"That was pretty exciting. I was hoping they were gong to win, but it was a close one. What impressed me was how much better they are than last year. I watched the linebackers to see what I am doing wrong so I can get an early jump on what I need to do when I report. They were not wrapping up because they were over running some stuff, but they looked good on defense."
Knight seems pretty satisfied with his commitment.
"I told my coach to let the other colleges know that I am solid. Everyone has pretty much quit calling. It is quiet around my house now (laugh)."
