DL Mike Thomas making an impact

The City of Mobile's sack leader last season is up to his old tricks.

"I have 25 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 6 tackles for losses through our first three games, added Mike Thomas.

Those stats might surprise some, but after transferring in from Florida last summer, he had 110 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks, and 17 tackles for losses in his first season for St. Pauls Episcopal School.

Look for those numbers to increase even further as the Ole Miss commit had offseason nose surgery which freed his air passage.

"I just feel like a new person. The nose surgery I had done this summer has helped me with my breathing, which in return has helped me with my endurance. You can watch the film and tell the difference. I can run a lot longer and go harder in general. I feel a lot more athletic and in shape than last year. They are also playing me at TE this year too. I am starting both ways for the first time Friday. That is going to be a lot of fun."

The 6' 4", 250 pound defensive end heard from his recruiting coach at Ole Miss last night.

"Coach Dickerson called me. He told me that he looks forward to me coming in for my official visit for their Homecoming weekend. He just calls me weekly to check up on me. We are real close."

Even though Thomas holds firm with his commitment, another SEC school is trying to get into the picture.

"South Carolina has been calling a lot lately. Coach Cooper told me that he was pretty sure they were about to offer me. They want me to come over there for a visit. USM has been calling too."

Where does Mike stand with his recruitment?

"I am still going to Ole Miss. I like how they look this year. I watched them against Wake Forest, and they were very impressive. I also like their whole staff, from Coach Nutt to Coach Rocker to Coach Dickerson. I fit in over there."
