Norwood searching for "momma's approval"
Posted Sep 22, 2008
The 6' 3", 180 pound receiver out of D' Iberville has been a key component in helping his team to a 3- 0 start.
"I had a couple of TD's against St. Martin," added
. "We won 41-14. Our next game we beat Collins and I had 2 receiving TD's. I also passed for a TD and had an interception. Against Harrison Central, I caught a few passes for some good yards (117) and I had a couple of sacks. And we beat Pearl River Central 41-0 Friday. I had a couple of TD's in that game too."
Has he seen any improvements in his game this season from last?
"I think I am just a better overall player, really. I find a way to make the big play. I thought a lot of teams would be double teaming me, but I am not complaining (laugh)."
Kevin has had Alabama, USM, and Ole Miss at the top of his list for quite some time now, and it looks like nothing has changed.
"I just got off the phone with a USM coach. Alabama and Ole Miss call me weekly too. That is about it. The same three schools are still the ones I am looking at right now."
What is each school's selling point?
"USM is telling me that I can get a good education, and they are throwing the ball a lot. They tell me I can be a big time WR for them, and that I would start as a freshman. Ole Miss is telling me a lot of the same things. They want to get me the bal from an up and coming QB in (Jevan) Snead. And Alabama, they are saying the same things. I can be a big time WR for them, and they will get me the ball."
Norwood has stated in the past that Alabama had the upper hand in his recruitment. Why?
"When I went over to Alabama for an unofficial visit in the Spring, it just felt like home. I want to get my mom up there to see it. I want to know what she thinks. I have a good feeling about it. I am sure if I like it, my mom will like it, but you never know. I met some of the players on the team while I was on that visit too. I also met their head coach. They were all cool."
What stands out about USM?
"That is the school I grew up watching. It is real close to home. I can come back home when I want to see my family. And my family can come watch me play anytime. That would be great. My family wants me to go to USM too. That is where they want me to go, but I am still keeping my options open."
Is Ole Miss on the outside looking in?
"No, not at all. They are still up there with Alabama and USM. I have been talking to their head coach a lot lately. They are really stressing that I will be the centerpiece to their class. That feels good to know they think so highly of me. And when I went on my visit up there this summer, I just liked it. I like the atmosphere around there. I really liked their facilities up there too."
Any college games on the horizon?
"I am hopefully going to be able to go to Alabama in a couple of weeks when they play Ole Miss. I can get a good look at both teams that way, and I still plan on going to a game of USM's and Ole Miss' before the end of the season. I just do not have anything lined up yet."
