Jon Billups profile
"I feel like we're doing pretty well," said Billups of his team's early results. "We put in a lot of work during the offseason and it's paying off. We have our first district game this weekend, so everybody is 0-0 now."
Jon is really making a name for himself along the Mississippi gulf coast. Opposing coaches and fans all want to know more about the space eating defensive tackle.
"I feel like I am playing okay," said Billups. "I am making some plays, but I still have a lot of improving to do. I just go hard every play and I try to use a little technique. I learned a lot at the camps I went to this summer, so I am trying to put all of that to use this season."
Billups camped at Alabama, Southern Miss and ULM. Those schools have continued to be pen pals with Jon since he attended their camps. There are a few other schools maintaining contact.
"I don't have any offers yet," said Billups. "Southeastern (Louisiana) has called me. Auburn, Stanford and Miami are all writing me some letters. Miami sent me a bunch last year and they just started writing me more since my senior season started. Ole Miss was writing me some, but it's been a little while since I got anything from them."
Jon can play on either side of the ball, but he expects to line up along the defensive front on the college level.
Billups believe he has what it takes to play at the college level. He reports he will not have any problems getting qualified. He is committing his senior year to prove his bona fide.
"I have about a 3.3 or 3.2 GPA and a 19 on my ACT," said Jon proudly. "I am going to qualify. I want to find a good program with good academics that will let me play football and get a good education."
