TE David Rue adds SEC offer

The 6' 5", 260 pound East MS CC tight end headed into his sophomore season with high expectations but a new offensive philosophy put a damper into the plans.

"We decided to go with a new spread attack," added David Rue. "They do not use the TE's in this offense, so I am taking a redshirt to save a year of eligibility."

That might seem depressing to most players, but the former St. Augustine (LA) product still has options.

"USM and Alabama offered me this summer."

When did Alabama notify David of his scholarship offer?

"Some recruiter came up here, and my coach told him about him. They tried me at defensive end, but I was not feeling it. I played defensive end during the Spring and Summer drills and did well, but I was just not feeling it. Anyway, I spoke with a defensive coach who came over here for a practice this summer. His name was Coach Burns. They sent me a written scholarship offer, but he has only called me once since then. That was a long time ago. Their head coach gave me a call too to check up on me though."

Anybody else that has not offered, actively recruiting David?

"I am getting letters from UAB, USM, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arizona State, and Oregon."

David inked with Ole Miss in 2007. Where do the Rebels stand?

"I want to go to Ole Miss, but their roster at tight end is too deep. They just brought in a juco TE. They have 2 or 3 freshmen TE's. They have a couple of sophomore TE's and a senior or two. They got some TE's, and they are not going to bring in some juco TE to sit on the bench. You bring them in to play. They are pretty good this year. I had a good conversation with Coach Nix when he came over to our school. He actually called me a couple weeks back, and he asked me if I were still interested, and I told him that I was, but that was before I found out about all their TE's."

David's former recruiting coach, Frank Wilson, left Ole Miss and is now at Southern Mississippi.

"I just have that comfort level with him, and they only have a sophomore and a junior on their roster. I think I might end up going to USM. I have a better opportunity to get in there and start because Shaun Nelson is about to leave."

Has Rue set up any visits?

"I am taking an official visit to USM for the Boise State game. I am getting out in December so I am about to start setting up all of my visits."
