Earns Mississippi Player of the Week

When tossing around the top running backs in the state of Mississippi, not many would mention Petal's outstanding tailback. That is about to change.

"I try not to worry about those things," added Isaiah Newsome. "But yea, I hope people do recognize what I am doing."

What Newsome has done this year is rush for 822 yards and 9 TD's in four games of action.

"Isaiah's a really physical football player with the ball in his hands," stated Petal's Coach Steven Buckley to the Clarion Ledger. "He has a 4.0 GPA and a 22 on his ACT. He exemplifies what our program stands for."

Last week, Isaiah was named Mississippi's Player of the Week by the Clarion Ledger after he carried the ball 41 times for 205 yards and also caught a 31 yard TD against Top 10 ranked and previously undefeated, Hattiesburg.

"We wanted to show everyone that we belong too. Hattiesburg was a great team, so it was a big win for our program. It gives us a lot of confidence."

Newsome has been lightly recruited for a man of his talents, but he has received an early offer from South Alabama and is hearing from USM, Ole Miss, Marshall, and Stanford.
