Houghton Looks to Make it in America

Year after year players try to make the transition from playing in Canada to making it to the United States, however many fall short. Eddie Houghton is an athlete who chose to go the prep school route for a year to show programs what he can do and is hoping that works out.

Eddie Houghton, a 5-foot-10.5, 225-pound running back from Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Mass., has yet to pick up his first offer, however it isn’t for lack of talent. Houghton put up impressive numbers as a senior in high school, however the post graduate student played in Canada and it looks like college coaches want to see him do it in the States as well before offering.

“The schools recruiting me are Harvard, Vanderbilt, Richmond, Princeton, Penn, Northwestern, Minnesota, Lafayette, Illinois, Holy Cross, Fordham, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, Boston College and Amherst,” Houghton explained. “The Ivy Leagues are recruiting me the hardest right now and Cornell has told me I am their number one back on their list. Harvard, Dartmouth, Columbia and Brown have told me I will be in their top three amongst highest recruited players.”

How much love is Houghton getting from I-A level programs?

“Right now the school with the most interest is definitely Minnesota, but others have expressed interest as well. All of them have said them just want to see me play American football first.”

As a senior at Toronto High in Toronto, Canada Houghton ran for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 11 yards per carry.
