Georgia wide receiver breaks record
"In my last game I had seven receptions, for 237 yards, and two touchdowns," Melzie Johnson said. "Last year I set the school record at 160 yards. I shattered that this game, with 237 yards." "We're 3-2 on the season. We lost one game to the No. 1 team, Westside (Macon). I feel we have a good chance of making the playoffs." The 6-3 and 190-pound prospect reports his latest contact with schools. "I've been talking to Coach Callahan at Akron," he commented. "He's been asking me about my games, and practices, and things like that. I sent my tape up there. He said that when they evaluate my tape, they'll get back in touch with me. I should be hearing from him sometime this week." "I talked to Central Florida about two weeks ago. We're working on setting up a visit right now. We basically talked about the same things that I talked to Akron about. They want to see my highlight tape, too." Johnson believes an offer could come in the near future. "I feel like Akron may offer," he said. "They sounded very positive when I talked to them. I have a good feeling an offer will come this week." The South Georgia standout will head north to Athens this weekend. "I'm looking forward to the atmosphere up there," he said. "I've heard very good things about game days up there. I'm planning on meeting with Coach Bobo, and a few other coaches. I'll meet with the coaches before the game." Johnson is adding two schools to his list of favorites. "I still like Alabama the most," he said. "My top five is about the same. I'll add Akron and Central Florida." Melzie Johnson reports 435 yards receiving, with three touchdowns for the season.
