Destrehan CB talks recruiting

Last season the 5' 11", 185 pound corner made a splash on the Louisiana scene when he helped lead his team to the State Championship and picked off a conference best 9 passes.

"I do not mean to be cocky, because I am not trying to sound like it, but I do everything well," added Antonio Parker. "I can lock you down, play Cover 2 or 3, back peddle and come up and make the tackle. I feel I am a complete CB."

That type of attitude has led to a quick start to the 2008 season.

"I have three picks in our first four games and a couple of kickoff returns for a TD. I had a 78 yard return against St. James. Things are going good. We worked hard in the offseason, and our defense is really shutting everyone down."

Parker ran a disappointing 4.72 at the Scout combine in New Orleans this past spring but believes that time does not tell the tale.

"I did not have any training before that combine. I didn't know how to run the 40. I started training with my DB coach, and he showed me how to get off and to stay between the lines. I was running wobbly. By the end of the summer, I shaved off some of that time."

How is recruiting going?

"I am getting a lot of letters from La Tech, Auburn, Alabama, and Ole Miss. Alabama actually came and watched me play in a scrimmage. Ole Miss is suppose to be coming by tonight."

What is La Tech saying?

"They are sending me a lot of letters, telling me to have a great season. They want me to come see some of their games."

What stands out about Tech?

"They have a nice conference. It is competitive."

What is Ole Miss saying?

"They are saying about the same things. They want to come up there for a game and they ask me about my season. Coach (Kim) Dameron came by here in the Spring to see me play, and he has been calling me. Ole Miss and Auburn have been calling me a lot lately."

What stands out about Ole Miss?

"One of my friends goes there, and he likes it. They also have my major, Architect, but so does Auburn and La Tech."

What is Auburn relaying to Parker?

"They said they really liked how I play the position. They came and watched me practice the other week. They brought two coaches over here to talk to me."

What are Auburn's positives?

"I like the crowd they have, and I also like the area. I have been over there before."

Who else has Antonio visited?

"I went over to MSU one time. I watched some film with some of their coaches. I wanted to talk to Coach Croom, but I did not get a chance to meet him. State also has my major, and they are one of my top choices. I also took an unofficial visit to Clemson and liked it. They also have my major."

Any trips on the horizon?

"I am suppose to go see Tulane play some time soon. They came over to a practice of mine, and they want me to come check them out."
