Nelson Claims 29 Offers
Robert Nelson profile Robert began the season strictly as a defensive player, but drastic times have called for drastic measures. "We started out pretty shaky," said Nelson of his team's winless start. "We made some changes on offense. Coach wanted to get a little more leadership out there. Now I am playing linebacker and on the offensive line. We just won our first ball game last week. We're 1-4 now and I am playing every play." Nelson has more than enough college options to feel secure about his football future. With well over 20 offers, Robert has a lot to sort through. "I have 29 total offers now," explained the talented linebacker. "I have offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Louisiana Tech, West Virginia, North Carolina State, North Carolina, ULM, Savannah State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Samford, Illinois, Mississippi State and a bunch more. If I had to come up with a top seven it would be South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, Troy, West Virginia, North Carolina and Mississippi State." When asked for a self evaluation, Robert said, "One of my biggest strengths is that I have the strength to get off of blocks. My coach has really worked with me a lot on hitting the crease hard. Once I get in the crease, I don't waste a lot of motion getting to the tackle. I just go get it." When decision time comes, Nelson's college choice will have to meet three very important criteria. "Location is going to be real important," said Robert. "I want to be close to home. I want to go to a school that has a real friendly environment. The depth chart is going to be important too. I want to be able to get some playing time as a freshman." Robert has not scheduled any official visits to date and he hopes to take in a few trips before making his college decision.
