Double-Duty

"This is the first time I'm playing defensive tackle, so it's a little different," Grant Enger said. "But I think I'm doing pretty good. I'm also playing offensive guard and I like doing both." He says that all of the schools recruiting him want him for offensive tackle and he still has scholarship offers from Oregon State, Stanford and Washington, but hasn't scheduled any official visits yet.

Grant Enger the 6-foot-5, 250-pound three-star offensive tackle from O'Dea High School in Seattle, Wash., has helped lead his team to a 4-1 record and is pulling double-duty, playing both offensive guard and defensive tackle.

"This is the first time I'm playing defensive tackle, so it's a little different," Enger said. "But I think I'm doing pretty good. I'm also playing offensive guard and I like doing both."

He says that all of the schools recruiting him want him for offensive tackle and still has scholarship offers from Oregon State, Stanford and Washington, but hasn't scheduled any official visits yet.

"I'll set them up after the season," he said. "All the coaches are trying to get me to come out sooner, but I'm not really gonna think about recruiting much until later. I think they are all cool with it."

Enger, ranked as the No. 49 offensive tackle in the country by Scout.com, says that none of the schools are recruiting him harder than any others and that he hears from all the coaches regularly.

Besides the three schools that have already offered, Enger is also looking at No. 15 Boise State, Arizona State and California. "They've all asked for some game film," he said. "I haven't sent any yet, but will definitely do that. They said they'd evaluate me this season and possibly offer."

Enger picked Boise State as a team that has really impressed him this season. "They haven't lost yet and are always really good," he said. "They could make it to another BCS bowl this year."

Another team that has impressed Enger thus far this season is Oregon State. "That was a big win against USC," he said. "You can't ignore it. Plus, they almost beat Utah too.

"Oregon State always seems to be pretty good and they are still young," he said. "It's only gonna get better for them."

Stanford is another Pac-10 program that Enger feels has a great upside. "I've talked with (tight ends) coach Tim Drevno a lot and he's a good guy," he said. "We have a good relationship and he knows his football.

"I think that Stanford is getting better and they are having a pretty good season so far," he said. "They've definitely made improvements."

While Stanford and Oregon State are on the upswing, Washington seems to be moving in the other direction. "They are having a rough season," he admitted. "But they are a real young team and I think they'll be fine. The coaches and I don't even really talk about that stuff. They just focus more on me and my season."

Enger attended the Washington/Oklahoma game on Sept. 13 and says he'll likely go to a few more Huskies games.

Enger reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 1600 SAT and says he wants to major in business management.
