Benyard Back From Oregon Visit
San Diego (Calif.) Cathedral Catholic tackle Everett Benyard (6-7, 314), made his first visit to Oregon over the weekend, and for the mammoth offensive lineman, it was also his first official visit. "He liked it, it was his first official visit and it went over well," said his father, Everett Sr., who joined his son on the visit. "It was his first time to Oregon, and I mean, the atmosphere was terrific." Benyard spent time with much of the coaching staff, and enjoyed that aspect of the visit. "He loved the team and that atmosphere and it was great, but the coaches, they really took him up under their wing and they took care of him," said Benyard Sr. "They broke out all of the coaches on him, and he spent a lot of time with the O-Line coach (Steve Greatwood) and the head coach, Coach (Mike) Bellotti, and spent time with all of them." Joining Benyard on the trip was another San Diego native, Anthony Anderson, who's a commit to Oregon. "Anthony has committed to Oregon and we spent time with him as well and they got along great," said Benyard Sr. Like most visitors to Eugene, the athletic facilities left an impression on the Benyards. "The facilities were awesome, they were top-notch," said Benyard Sr. "We thought Notre Dame was top-notch, this was top notch." The Ducks left a strong impression on Benyard, as a result of the trip, and plenty of groundwork that was laid before the visit. "Everett has a very strong interest in Oregon. I don't know that he has a favorite, but he does like Oregon," said Benyard Sr. With his first visit under his belt, Benyard will still be taking a few more. "He's not yet set up anymore but he's supposed to go to Utah, Arizona State, Oregon State and Washington," said Benyard Sr. "He'll probably take more visits before his time to announce." Cathedral is 5-0 and one of the top teams in the state, and there is still a possible state bowl berth, which would come in late December, so the scheduling of a visit could be an issue. "They're playing very well right now, so we'll have to see when the time allows for him to take another visit," said Benyard Sr. Aside from the Ducks, Benyard is still interested in Utah, Arizona State, San Diego State, UCLA and Washington.
