CLAY, Ala. – You can spell the end of the playoff hopes of the 2008 Clay-Chalkville Cougars – and…
"It's a big honor to play in the game," said Kendall Kelly. "People from this area are finally getting a chance to play in one of the big bowl games. [Jerrell Harris '08 Under Armour All-American, Antoine McClain '08 Under Armour All-American.] It's a great opportunity."
"The reason I chose the U.S. Army game was because it's been around the longest. You have all the troops there. You get to go the hospital and visit people. It's a real good thing to do. That's why I chose it."
When asked if an announcement of his college decision could happen at the game Kelly replied, "If I am feeling the school I am going to choose, then I will make my decision at the game."
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver played tight end for the first time Friday night and admitted, "it was a little weird." Kelly settled in nicely at the position and helped lead the Titans to a big victory over Hewitt-Trussville.
Kelly has started thinking official visits with a couple in mind.
"I have two visits planned right now," he said. "They are LSU and Clemson. I haven't set the dates yet because I have basketball coming up. I am not sure when I will be able to get there. My parents and I talked about it last week. We decided on those two schools for sure."
"LSU is known for having big players coming out. I like their program and what they are doing down there. It's crazy up at Clemson. The stadium is rocking from when the game starts until it ends."
The interview with Kelly went a little more in-depth than with Kirkpatrick due to no recent updates. The five-star defensive back weighed in on the reasons for playing in San Antonio.
"It's an honor and privilege to be invited to the game," said Dre Kirkpatrick. "It's just a really great honor to be able to play in the game. I want to go out there and prove that I am the best."
"I decided to play in the game because of my mom, dad and coach Herman Boone. They all wanted me to play in the game."
Kirkpatrick expects to decide on official visits in the very near future.
"I haven't set up any other visits yet, but I am going to do that very soon," he stated. "I haven't rescheduled the visit to Texas yet."
The Titans go on the road this week to face Clay-Chalkville. Kirkpatrick and Kelly have an important date scheduled Saturday to take the ACT.
