McCloskey Nets Second Offer

The service academies have gotten very good players out of the Philadelphia Catholic League over the past few years with players like Jeff Battipaglia and Neil Doogan from St. Joseph’s Prep and this year Navy is now targeting another Philly player in Anthony McCloskey.

Anthony McCloskey, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker from Cardinal O’Hara High School got an offer earlier in the season from Central Connecticut State and last week he picked up his second offer from Navy. McCloskey’s father was a Marine and we talked to him last night about the possibility of joining the military.

“The Naval Academy offered me recently,” McCloskey stated. “Coach (Dale) Pehrson came up to my school and told me that they were offering me. My father was a Marine, so I have it in the family, but I need to sit down and think about things as it’s a 10-year decision.”

“I do like that they offer a great education, have a great program and give you an awesome sense of discipline. When you leave Navy you also have jobs just waiting for you. I went down for their games against Pittsburgh and Rutgers and plan to make it down when they play Notre Dame too.”

McCloskey has 98 tackles, five sacks and a blocked field goal this season.

He has power lifted for years now and has documented lifts from competition of 860 pounds on the squat, 500 pounds on the bench and 675 pounds on the dead lift.
