Reed Gets Some Great Feedback

Christian Reed has been an outstanding high school football player for Notre Dame High School, however sometimes in recruiting that doesn’t always transfer to scholarship offers immediately. As time has gone by interest has started to rise in Reed and now he has picked up a preferred walk-on offer from a school known to have one of the best defensive and special teams units in college football.
Simply put,
Christian Reed
is a worker. Over his sophomore and junior years the 6-foot-2, 220-pound defensive end registered 163 tackles, 59 tackles for loss and 16 sacks, let alone the amount of forced fumbles, interceptions and blocked kicks he has had. This season through eight games he has already amassed 10.5 sacks in eight games as well and recruiting has picked up for him in the past month according to his father.
“We just wanted to update you and keep you in the loop on what Christian has going on with his recruiting,” Mr. Reed said. “Yesterday Christian received a lot of action with a lot of it being positive. In addition to him being recognized by the Delaware Valley 12th Man Touchdown Club as the Mercer Count/CVC Conference Defensive Player of the Week, we also go to see where he stands with a few programs.”
Virginia Tech
- “Defensive line coach Charlie Wiles reviewed his senir film and Virginia Tech offered him as a preferred walk-on for 2009. They want him in their program, but due to limited scholarships for this class they will not offer him as of now. The coaching staff feels he can earn a scholarship quickly while at Virginia Tech. Coach Wiles really, really likes him as a person and as a player. As I said, Coach Wiles is very confident that Christian would be a scholarship player for Virginia Tech. They may also consider offering a grey-shirt offer to count against next year’s class.”
Northwestern
- “Coach Kevin Johns has reviewed his senior film and has forwarded it to the defensive line coach for review. He stated that Northwestern currently has two or three kids ahead of Christian on their chart as of now. They are offered players, but none of them have committed yet. They will be taking one defensive end and one linebacker in the class.”
Notre Dame
- “Coach Corwin Brown reviewed his senior film and sent him an email on Sunday night indicating that he wants to speak with him. Christian has reached out to him, Coach Rob Ianello and Coach John Latina vial email and has asked them to call him personally or at the school, so he’s just waiting for a response right now. His former teammate Nick Lezynski is a walk-on quarterback at Notre Dame, so while it could be a long shot maybe a walk-on could come of it.”

, Northeastern, Wofford, Brown and Pennsylvania have all reviewed his junior highlight tape as well as his senior film and we’re waiting for them to get back to us. Frank Sheehan of Brown called our home on Tuesday night as well as coaches from Liberty. Of course, he already has a full offer from Monmouth at this point. We made a trip to their game last week and he really liked it there.”
The preferred walk-on offer from Virginia Tech is one that would definitely make a lot of sense for Reed. While he is a bit undersized at defensive end, the Hokies use wide splits for their pass rushers and with his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield, he could fit right in Coach Bud Foster’s defensive scheme. He could also be a very good special teams player given his tremendous motor.
