Four Star TE Gabe Ikard is a Sooner
The nations 10th ranked TE prospect, Gabe Ikard, ended his recruitment by verbally pledging his services to Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners just before ending his official visit this weekend. Ikard chose the Sooners over Notre Dame, Stanford, and Oklahoma State among others. "The visit went just about as good as it could go. Shucks, I committed," said Ikard; nonchalantly. "I did it just before my visit ended." As for why he pulled the trigger on OU, Ikard replied, "Aside from the fact that it was the easiest on my family in regards to visiting me and seeing me play, I was sold when I talked to the president of the school. He, as well as Coach Stoops, emphasized that if I played football at OU and did well in school, I would have an enormous amount of opportunities after football is over. They really stressed how doors would open for me. Of course, playing football after college is the dream but, if that doesn't happen, getting an education from OU while also playing football will be life changing when everything is all said and done. That was the big thing that put it over the top." Unlike his other visits, Ikard also liked the fact that the coaches showed him exactly how he would be used in their system. "Coach [Kevin] Wilson sat me, my mom, and my dad down and spent about an hour with us going over how they see me in the offense. I mean, they broke down all the plays and all the formations and said; this is Gabe. The other schools didn't do that. They would say things like, we like big guys that can run or if you don't work out at tight end you could move to the d-line. I was impressed that they had a plan for me. I wanted to know how they would utilized what I bring to the table and they showed me." Ikard makes commitment No. 19 for the Sooners.
