Coleman Now Looking at Others
Seattle (Wash.) Garfield defensive tackle Deandre Coleman (6-4, 285) is rated as the top player in the state of Washington. Coleman had originally committed to staying in-state to play for the hometown Huskies, but with the uncertainty around the Washington head coaching job, Coleman reopened his recruitment. Last weekend, we caught up with the four-star defensive tackle following his team's final game of the season, in a tough, winless season. Coleman said he has backed away from his initial commitment to the Huskies and, instead of being a soft verbal, is completely wide open. "I just wanted to keep all of my options open," said Coleman. "I'm going to take all of my visits now and then I'll decide again." Coleman has already taken one official visit, to California, visiting Berkeley last month. "My trip to Cal was real cool. I hung out with a lot of the guys I knew from up here and got to talk with all of the coaches," said Coleman. "My host was Cameron Jordan and he's real cool, too. Cal's probably my top school." This weekend, Coleman will take a trip to UCLA. "I'm looking forward to that visit and getting down there to L.A.," said Coleman. Coleman is also planning on visiting Arizona State and Colorado, and either Arizona or Oregon for his fifth visit. "I'm definitely going to take all five of my visits," said Coleman. "I probably won't decide until January though." As for Washington, Coleman said they are still heavily in the mix for his services, but he's waiting to see who the Huskies name as their new head coach. "It's close to home and I committed there before, so I like Washington," said Coleman. "So I definitely want to see what happens there." Coleman was recently invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Could he potentially announce in San Antonio? "Maybe," said Coleman. "It depends on what I do with my visits." Academically, Coleman said he's putting in the work necessary to qualify.
