UT Commit Toney Williams Talks Coach Fulmer
Toney Williams, a bruising back out of Milton HS (GA), is the type of workhorse that Volunteer fans have grown accustomed to seeing in their offense. The playmaker was having what many would consider a dream season. He was having huge games where he was consistently putting up gaudy numbers, often well over 300 yards. He was also carrying his team to the AAAAA state playoffs, something his Eagles hadn't done in quite some time. And, to top it all, he had committed to play football for the Tennessee Volunteers, something he had dreamed of doing for as long as he could remember. Well, it appears as though Williams's dream season has hit a bit of a snag. Today, Coach Phil Fulmer and the University of Tennessee came to conclusion that the football program would be in better hands if he weren't there in 2009. Scout caught up with the hardworking Williams to get his reaction to the news and to find out his next move. Williams still plans on sticking with the Vols What was your initial reaction? "I was pretty much shocked and disappointed," he said. Moving forward, what are your plans? "I'm still committed to Tennessee," he shared. "But I am definitely going to find out what is out there." Do you have any idea where you might look? "Not really, he offered. "I'm going to see what else is out there, because I don't know who the coach is going to be...I mean I still want to be open-minded and look out for myself." Are you now going to take any Official Visits? "I have none planned, not that I know of. So, I guess now you can focus on the season, right? "Yes Sir, we are in the playoffs and we want to make a run." Have you spoken with any of the coaches? "I have not spoken with the coaches but Coach Walker (Milton Head Coach) has," he said. "He just asked what happened and he said that they were pretty much just saying what everybody on TV was saying." Stay Tuned as Scout will provide up-to-date- information on Toney Williams and his commitment to the University of Tennessee.
