Langston Nabs SEC Offer, Names Leader
Maurice Langston profile Despite putting up the type of numbers that have many in the state ready to name him Mississippi Junior College Player of the Year, Langston believes he left a few yards out on the field. "I feel like I had a pretty good year, but I feel I could have done better," said Maurice. "There are a couple more plays I wish I would have made, another catch here or there or a tackle I should have broken. I am always looking back trying to find a way to be better." Langston's game changing ability has drawn the attention of college scouts from around the south. Memphis, North Texas, Southern Miss and UAB had all offered before East Central played their season finale. A few days ago Maurice picked up an offer to play in his favorite conference, the SEC. "Mississippi State offered me last Friday," said Langston. "My offensive coordinator and offensive line coach went to Mississippi State and they put in a good word for me. "It's all happened kind of fast. They got my tape and they liked it, so they offered me. I am going to be taking an official visit there on the 21st when the play Arkansas." The trip to Starkville is one of three scheduled stops on the Langston recruiting tour. He has a November 14th trip to North Texas and a December 5th trip to Memphis on the slate. Maurice plans to take all of his scheduled visits before deciding, but he readily admits that his most recent offer has him thinking hard about a decision. "I am going to try to take my visits and go see all of the campuses," said Langston. "Right now I have a real high interest in Mississippi State. They are my leader it's close to home and it's in the SEC." The Northeast Lauderdale alum signed with Arkansas State out of high school, but in the end he believes his decision to move back home and attend East Central has paid off. "I really think everything happened for the best," said Maurice. "It looks like my dream to play in the SEC is coming true." Langston will need to decide soon. Maurice will be able to transfer at the end of the semester and enroll at the school of his choosing in time for spring practice.
