At 6’6, 305-lbs, Carmel High School’s Alex Pierce has the size to play at the next level. Several college coaches have seen that he has ability to go along with that size, especially Eastern Illinois, who gave him his first scholarship offer last Monday.
While Pierce was happy that the Panthers extended the offer, he is still playing a waiting game and exploring other options.
“I’ve been talking to Cincinnati a lot, they have given me a preferred walk-on offer,” he said, “Ball State and Indiana are still recruiting me and so is Purdue, they just need to see more tape.”
The preferred walk-on offer from the Bearcats is problematic for Pierce.
“I’d like to take it,” he admitted, “but I can’t afford it.”
With that, he is hoping a scholarship or two may open up at Cincy and his name would come up to fill the spot. In the meantime, he is continuing to research other schools and has done so on several visits, including killing two birds with one stone at the Indiana/Ball State game.
He also has visited newly offering Eastern Illinois.
“The facilities weren’t as good, but I loved the academic program and the coaching staff there.”
While Pierce plays tackle for Carmel, he says EIU offered him as a guard and that is where most of the other schools project him. He and the Greyhounds continue their title defense tonight at 7pm against Harrison High.
