First Big Ten Offer for Carter
The University of Wisconsin has been busy looking ahead this week. The Badgers have been getting a jump on the 2010 recruiting class, first extending an offer to Detroit Southeastern junior DE William Gholston and then Loyola Academy (Ill.) DE Chance Carter. "I knew about from my mom," Carter reported, "she had talked to them and then told me. I called the coaches and made it official. I talked to Coach McCray." The 6'4, 235-lb Carter now has offers from the Badgers, Notre Dame and Stanford as well as interest from Arizona State, Northwestern, Illinois, Georgia and others. He took an unofficial visit to Madison last month, where he came away impressed with what Wisconsin has to offer a young man such as himself. "I really like the school a lot. It is a great sports town. The fans there are very truthful to the team, even if they are not good or if they're good. The atmosphere there was amazing." With the state playoffs in full swing, Carter has not been able to go on any unofficial visits in recent weeks, although he has been to Notre Dame and Northwestern in addition to his trip to Wisconsin. Right after football season, Carter will immediately pick up the roundball as he is also a fine basketball player. However, when it comes to what he will do in college, there is no doubt as to which sport he will choose. "Actually, I'm not [looking to play basketball in college] at all. I'm just going to play football in college."
