Harris Holds Offer, All-Star Selection

Charleston has one of the top programs in Mississippi's North 3A classification. The Tigers won another Region 4-3A title this year, but found themselves at home this weekend after losing in the first round of the state playoffs.

"I feel like I had a good year," said defensive back Charles Harris. "It still feels incomplete because we didn't go farther in the playoffs."

Unlike his teammates, Charles will suit up in one more high school game before the year is out. Harris was recently named to the 37 man roster for team Mississippi in the annual Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game.

"I found out last Tuesday or Wednesday," said the talented defensive back. "Coach Vance told me congratulations. I was shocked. I didn't even know I had a chance to make it."

Harris rounds out an athletic secondary made up of standouts Keshun Cowan and Rod Woodson of Olive Branch, Khairi Usher of Meridian, Martez Thompson of Pascagoula and Montez Phillips of Lafayette County.

"I feel like I can be a big part of everything," said Charles. "I think we have a good team and I think we can go down there and win."

Some additional attention from college recruiters would be a welcome benefit for Charles.

"I have an offer from USM and Coahoma," said Harris. "Coahoma and Northwest (Community College) have been by the school. USM offered me some time during the football season."

The Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game will be played December 17th in Mobile, Alabama at Ladd-Pebbles stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 P.M.
