Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley fullback Cole Huntley got some good news from an in-state school this week.
"I got a call (Tuesday) from UC Davis Head Coach Biggs," said Huntley. "He offered me a scholarship to play football at UC Davis. He wants me to come for an official visit in January. He said they really like the way I play and they hope I decide to come to Davis."
Huntley also plays rugby, being invited to play for Cal's prestigious rugby program for Jack Clark. He's also been in contact with Matt Sherman, the Director of USA Rugby's U-18 National Team.
"Coach Sherman wants me to attend the National Team Camp in San Diego in a few weeks," said Huntley.
Whether Huntley goes or not depends on if SRV can make another deep run in the CIF-North Coast Section playoffs, which they won a year ago.
"I don't know if I can do this because San Ramon Valley is in the CIF-NCS playoffs and I think we can have a good run - hopefully as good as last year," said Huntley.
Arizona has also been in touch with Huntley.
"I also got a call and spoke with from Coach Bedenbaugh from Arizona. He said they are very interested in me and they want to talk with me after the season is over," said Huntley.
Huntley has two options for college, football or rugby, putting him in elite company.
"I think I'm one of the few Bay Area athletes that has offers in two different college varsity sports - football at UC Davis and rugby at Cal," said Huntley.
Huntley and SRV begin playoff action on Friday night against San Leandro.
