Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian running back Malcolm Jones was the player of the game when we saw him against Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara.
Jones had a couple of touchdown runs that left the crowd oohing and ahhing, breaking numerous tackles on one and leaping over Wood on two others. Jones has great instincts and sees the field as well as any running back we've seen this year. He's got great cutback too and gets to the outside quick. Most impressive was his YAC, never going down on first contact but constantly keeping his legs going and breaking tackles. He's got quick acceleration and gets to the holes quick.
We've known about Jones since he was a freshman, when he came in for an injured Marc Tyler and helped the Lions to a state title, and the last two years, its been his job to be the primary runner for the Lions and he's on his way to possibly being the top all-around back in the class of 2010. Jones already has a handful of Pac-10 offers and will easily end up with more when it's all said and done.
Jones ran for 135 yards on only eight carries, and also added eight tackles. He's a very good defender, but his future is on the offensive side of the ball, because of his unique blend of speed, vision and power.
Here are clips of Jones in action against Santa Clara.
