"Coach
Nix (for Ole Miss) came by tonight," added Deontae Skinner. "He was
just wishing me luck on my game Saturday and trying to get me on board. They want
me to be a Rebel. They think I can really help their program because I am what
they need."
What was Ole Miss' main selling point?
"They
just want me to be a Rebel, and they really want me to be a part of their school.
They want to build on what they did this season, and they think I can help them
take it to the next level. That is what got my attention the most. They were just
really impressed with me as a player, and they have faith in me. That really caught
my attention."
Has the MSU commit received anymore inhome visits?
"No
sir, that is it so far, but I did set up an official visit with USM last night.
I am going over there on January 16h and MSU on January 23rd. I have to get back
with Coach Nix (at Ole Miss), but we are talking about me coming in January too."
Any
future inhome visits on the horizon?
"USM was suppose to come by
this week, but they are bringing their whole staff to the Championship game so
they can meet my family."
What stands out about USM?
"There
is always a slight chance you could end up anywhere, so I just want to see what
I like about them, and get more in-depth with USM."
Was Skinner caught
off guard by the dismissal of Coach Croom at MSU?
"I was not surprised,
to be truthful, because MSU was not playing good this year and things had gotten
pretty bad. I do not know who the new coach is going to be, but Coach Stringer
said I still have my scholarship."
What will Deontae look for in MSU's
new head coach?
"I look forward to a coach coming in, and being about
winning, and changing that program around. I just want someone to come in there
that is all about winning."
For now, Skinner is looking forward to
a little redemption this Saturday.
"I am really excited about getting
back to Jackson (for the state championship game). Last year we came up a little
short, but this year we are coming in confident. We know we have everyone healthy
this time, and we have prepared ourselves well. We have a lot of motivation."
The
Noxubee County standout has 125 tackles and 9 sacks on the season.
