Deiana Toughs Out Junior Season
Matt Deiana may be short at 5-foot-7, however he is an absolute tank weighing in at 180 pounds and is strong as an ox, having recently put up 185 pounds 31 times on the bench press at a competition. Add those numbers to a respectable 4.49 40-yard dash and you have somewhat of a bowling ball in your backfield ready to break through tacklers. "I have steady interest coming in right now from Boston College, Florida State, Missouri, Purdue, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Buffalo, Duke and Syracuse," Deiana offered. "I had invites to go to games at Buffalo, Duke and Syracuse, but I couldn't make it out there, so I'm going to take unofficial visits instead to learn more about the schools." "Obviously going to camp at Boston College last summer made me really interested in them and I have been in contact with them pretty consistently. I really loved the facilities and the coaches there. Buffalo is another school that I have talked to a lot lately and they seem to be the two coming at me hardest right now." As a junior, he carried 54 times for 705 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns and returned three kickoffs for 78 yards. On defense, he made 45 tackles, sacked the quarterback twice and had 11 pass breakups. He played the last five games of his junior season with dislodged vertebrae in his neck.
