ALA All-Star: Dre Kirkpatrick

ALA All-Star: Dre Kirkpatrick

Dre Kirkpatrick, five-star cornerback from Gadsden (Ala.) City, was the vocal leader on the Alabama team's defense Tuesday morning. Kirkpatrick talked about the first day and the decision to participate in the game. He is scheduling visits, and one is set to an out-of-state program in January.

"The first practice went well," said Dre Kirkpatrick. "It was a lot more than I thought it was going to be. Everything was good. You know there are some players who don't want to come out and get hurt, but everyone was doing good today."

"There were a few running backs and receivers who impressed me. I thought I did good. I have a lot of room to improve, and there are things I can work on. Overall I did good today."

Kirkpatrick will participate in the U.S. Army game in January, but he wanted to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic as well.

"I was ready to showcase my talent on a bigger stage," he said. "There is a lot of great talent playing in this game. You are going to be playing against guys you will see in college. It helps out a lot."

Kirkpatrick traveled to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl and watched the two in-state schools take opposite paths during the season.

"The game was a lot of fun," Kirkpatrick said. "It was wild. There was a lot of excitement down there. The crowd and the team were really into it. It was cool. I had a good time."

"I know Auburn doesn't have coach [Tommy] Tuberville anymore. I am not going to say they are completely out of it for me, but it did make a big impact on me. I liked coach Tuberville a lot. I know coach [Terry] Price and coach [James] Willis are still there. I have a good relationship with them."

Kirkpatrick will start sorting out visits with one already scheduled. He has a few other visits in mind as well.

"Texas is the only visit," he said. "I will go there January 23. I know Alabama will receive a visit. USC will probably receive a visit. I am not sure who else will receive visits. I don't have it narrowed down to a certain number of schools. I still plan to make my decision on Signing Day."
