Indiana's Kevin Mitchell was named all-state in 2002 and he's a Midwest "Hot 100" prospect. Today, Mitchell gave Ron Turner and Illinois his verbal commitment.

"I committed to Illinois this morning," said defensive back Kevin Mitchell.

"The players, the coaches, everything was just fantastic.

"The Illinois coaching staff said they needed defensive backs and that if I learned the system quick enough, I could play early.

"Cyrus Garrett was my host. I'm very excited and I'm looking forward to getting everything going."

Mitchell, a 6-foot, 190-pounder, from Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Homestead was named to the "Big 33" all-state team by the Bloomington Herald in 2002.

I've personally seen Mitchell in action and I was very impressed. Mitchell was a two-way star but will play safety at the next level.

Mitchell is the #2 defensive back prospect in the Hoosier State behind Purdue verbal commitment Bernard Pollard.
