"I
was named the Player of the Game," added Victor Gray. "I had eight tackles
and a sack. The game plan was for them to run away from me, but I still made some
plays."
The 6' 4", 235 pound Orlando resident finished his season
with 103 tackles, 10 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 blocked field goals.
"I
was a lot more aggressive this year. I was running around using my speed. I have
always been a great athlete, but this year I was playing more physical as the
season got going."
Gray was selected to the North/South All-Star game
in Florida, but he has another sport already in play.
"I am in basketball
now. We played our first game Wednesday. I got 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals,
and 3 blocks. I still have to get in basketball shape (laugh). I was like, slow
down guys, I am out of breath (laugh)."
The past two weeks have been
busy on the recruiting front as Victor has hosted several coaches at his school
and home.
"Georgia, Ole Miss, Colorado State, Iowa State, Maryland,
Central Florida, Georgia Tech, South Florida, Purdue, and North Carolina State
have all been by."
One visit stuck out over the others due to one
little detail.
"Coach Vaughn from Ole Miss came by my house, and he
was the only one that wanted to check my room, out of all of them. He wanted to
see how my room was kept. He was pretty impressed. My mom makes me keep it clean,
thank goodness (laugh). We talked about the environment at Ole Miss and their
Engineering and Business programs. Those are the two programs I am looking at.
But what really stood out to me was when he asked to see my room because it shows
a lot about wanting to find out what type of character I have. That stood out
the most to me."
The Rebel assistant said something to Victor last
Spring that left a lasting impression.
"He came by last Spring to
see me practice, and as I was passing by he said something to me that I will never
forget. He said, I know you do not know me, but I am coming after you. He told
me that he planned to out recruit me from all the other schools. I did not know
how he planned on doing it, but I remember it. I was like, who does this Ole Miss
coach think he is? And now I know why. He just goes the extra mile with me."
Gray
is slated to be in Oxford this weekend for an official visit. What will he focus
on while on campus?
"My my wants to see if I am going to be taken
care of. I am her baby, so you know how that goes (laugh). I just want to see
if I feel comfortable with my surroundings. I already know what I am getting with
their coaches."
Victor has only taken one other official visit and
that was to Colorado State (10/12), his first offer.
"They brought
their head and recruiting coach to my house this week. It was probably my shortest
visit out of all of them. Most of the visits lasted 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but he answered
all of my questions, and we got everything done."
What questions did
Scout.com's #51 DE have?
"We did not have that many. They answered
most of my questions on my official visit. My mom wanted to know what the living
arrangements were gong to be. They give you an allowance each month, and you can
live where you want to, so that was important. Mom wanted to know about the crime
in that area, you know, the same questions most parents have."
There
could be one new school that is trying to get in the mix.
"Georgia
came by my school last week, and they came back (this week). They want to get
me over there for a visit, but with basketball season going on, it will probably
be January before I take anymore visits. They scouted one of my games, and they
said they really liked what they saw. I do not know where it is going to go right
now, but they are interested."
Which colleges have now offered?
"Every
school I mentioned (Georgia, Ole Miss, Colorado State, Iowa State, Central Florida,
Georgia Tech, South Florida, Purdue, and North Carolina State), minus Georgia
and Purdue, plus a few more"
Boston College also offered and was high
on Gray's list until recently.
"I have not been in contact with them
lately. They have not called lately. I am uncertain as well as to what to say."
Who
will receive Victor's last three official visits?
"I am trying to
decide who to visit, but I have not narrowed it down. I have Georgia Tech and
Maryland in mind, but I am not even sure on those two yet. They are all showing
me the same amount of interest, and then you have new schools like Georgia who
are just now coming in on me. I do not know yet. I am just going to go up to Ole
Miss this weekend and have a good time and go from there. Everyone is still under
consideration."
