A couple of years ago many questioned the thinking of Ty Scroggins when he took over the Louisville Central football program. Now Scroggins is having a second laugh by winning the schools second state title in as many years.
After a slow start Louisville Central got on track and used it's star power in defeating Breathitt County 40-19 and capturing their second straight title.
Quarterback Chris King went 5-of-11 for 130 yards and a touchdown while Chance Hughes carried the ball twenty-one times for 169 yards and two scores in helping Louisville Central in winning their second straight title.
Junior wide receiver
Stephan Robinson
showed why he's getting lots of early interest by pulling down three passes for 120 yards and a 65-yard touchdown.
It was just a year ago that
Ridge Wilson
, Mister Cobble and
Timothy Patterson
made names for themselves in the title game. Wilson and Cobble with be taking their game to Kentucky next fall while Patterson has another season to go. But one can't overlook Robinson and his skill set as a top prospect to watch for the Class of 2009.
But while Central is known for it's talent, Breathitt County had some of their own.
Quarterback Jade Haddix would pass for 100 yards on 9-of-18 passing with a touchdown. But it was his feet that helped his team stay in the hunt as he rushed for 113 yards and a score on 13 carries.
Channing Fugate also showed his skills by rushing for 133 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.
But in the end the trio of Wilson, Cobble and Patterson made the difference combining for 24 tackles with 6 for a loss.
Can Central win a third straight title? That will be up to Patterson and Robinson as they look to carry the load as two of the Commonwealth's top players head off to college.
