Conner Leads Highlands To 18th KY Title

Despite missing some of the season with an injury, Josh Conner was there when it mattered the most as Highlands fought off Christian County 35-14 to win the Kentucky 5A title.

Josh Conner who went down early in the season with an injury made it back to help the Highlands Bluebirds win their 18th state football title tying Louisville Trinity atop the state's all-time list.

But while Conner would be a key early on he almost gave things away by fumbling twice while losing both of them. In the end the senior running back would rush for 114 yards on 16 carries with one touchdown. But it wasn't just offense that Conner made his mark as he posted 6 tackles in the championship game.

While Conner gets over looked by many he's proven time and time again to be ready when it matters most.

Also helping the Bluebirds was Oliver Head with 7 tackles and Michael Laber who recorded a game high of 12 tackles with one sack and three for a loss.

For Christian County Adrian Booker posted 6 tackles with one pass breakup and a sack on defense while quarterback James Bauer was the teams offensive star going 14-26 for 187 yards.

Highlands also saw strong performances from quarterback Tony Guidugli who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown while throwing for one touchdown on 2-of-4 passes.

Austin Collinsworth was Guidugli's main target pulling down a 47 yard pass but Daniel gold was the one who scored on a 13-yard pass.

Over the past two seasons Highlands has gone 29-1 and will be watching to see if Louisville Trinity can break the tie between the two schools for the most state championships in the Commonwealth.
