The Coral Reef Senior standout took in an official visit to Ole Miss this past weekend, and he knew in his gut that he had found his school, but he wanted to wait until he got home and discuss it over with his mother before pulling the trigger.
"I pretty much liked everything they had to offer at Ole Miss," added
Charles Sawyer
. "My dad got to come with me on the trip, but mom had to stay at home, so I needed to talk things over with her before I committed."
After the family meeting, the Sawyers felt like Ole Miss was the best fit.
"I did a lot of thinking, and I felt when I went on my trip, it was more than just a trip, it was a business trip because that is where I am going to spend my next four to five years. I just did a lot of thinking, and everything that I thought it was going to be like, it was two times better. Coaches Nutt and Vaughn did a great job recruiting me and making me feel at home. When I left Miami and arrived at the Oxford campus, it felt no different than Miami. It was like a home away from home."
There were also a couple more factors that came with the decision.
"I think I can come in there and make an impact at corner. I went to a couple of their practices, and I really liked their drills and how the coaches coach. I also felt comfortable around the Ole Miss coaches and players. I already knew some of their coaches, but I had not had a chance to see if I was going to fit in with their players. And lastly, I wanted to look at their academic programs. They were very impressive. Overall, Ole Miss was just what I was looking for."
Charles finished his season with 45 solo tackles and 5 interceptions. He was selected to the Dade/Broward and North/South All-Star games for his on the field play.
Scout.com's #53 ranked CB was extended scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Florida, Central Florida, South Florida, Purdue, Colorado, North Carolina, and Vandy.
