Heading the White team is four-star safety Darren Myles out of Atlanta (GA). Myles is a true quarterback of the defense. He is a leader, he is a smart player, and he is solid against the pass and the run. His intelligence shows on the field as he seems to put himself in the right position to make a play most of the time. On the recruiting front, Myles is currently looking at Alabama, Georgia Tech, LSU, Purdue, and a few others.
Two other prospects out of the Peach State join Myles in the defensive backfield. Prince Kent is a big (6-3, 205) athlete that could end up at corner or safety at Miami and Greg Reid is a playmaker on both sides of the ball.
Kent has ties to South Florida and he committed to the Miami Hurricanes back in the spring. He is a physical player that loves to deliver big hits. Corner has been his primary position in high school along with wide receiver on offense.
Reid is a South Georgia native that is dangerous with the ball in his hands and he could end up on either side of the ball on the next level. had close to 20 interceptions over the past two seasons at corner and he will get his chance to showcase his skills at that position this week. Reid is a solid commitment to Florida.
One of the top overall athletes in Florida is Ray Ray Armstrong. He is a special athlete that can do a lot on the field. The Orlando native brings a lot of versatility at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds. Safety is where he wants to play and he covers better than many expect him to, but he could end up at outside linebacker, rush end, or even utilize his skills on offense as an athletic tight end. Florida, LSU, Miami, and Georgia are still in the mix for Armstrong.
Travis Hawkins is a physical defensive back that doesn’t have the size that Armstrong has, but he has the toughness. Hawkins brings a lot of strength to the secondary and he plays with a high level of aggressiveness while staying under control. The Maryland athlete is physical enough to play safety and he has the hips to play corner. Hawkins decided to stay home and be a Terrapin.
The final pieces to the White team’s secondary are Ricardo Dixon and Isaiah Bell. Dixon plays corner and is committed to South Florida while Bell plays safety and he is going to be a Michigan Wolverine.
Both of these prospects will look to make their stock go up this week as they go head to head with some of the best athletes in the country.
The Black team will be a strong unit and they will be led by one of the premier players in the country.
Craig Loston is a five-star safety out of Houston (Texas) and schools from coast to coast have made a run at this young man. He is the total package at safety and his best football is still ahead of him. After being committed to Clemson for months earlier this year, he has opened things back up. LSU could be the team to beat for the number one safety in the country.
While Loston will run things at safety, Branden Smith will lock down one side of the field for the White squad at corner.
Smith is one of the most electric athletes in the country. He has not been tested much at corner because schools have not thrown his way, so he will get a chance to showcase his skills this week against a great receiver group. That will be a big test for Smith, but the biggest time for him at this event will be Sunday when he announces his decision. Alabama, Florida, FSU, and Georgia are the finalists.
Joining Smith at corner will be three of the of the top 18 at that position on Scout.com.
Darrell Givens (no. 9), C.J. Barnett (no. 11), and Steve Williams (no. 18) combined with Smith will give the White team four strong corners.
Givens is out of Indian Head (MD) and he has committed to Penn State. He has good size at 6-foot-1 and over 170 pounds, so he will be looked at to slow down the bigger receivers on the Black team. Barnett is built in the same mold (6-1, 180) with good length and the Ohio native has decided to stay home and to take his game to Ohio State on the next level. The smallest one out of this trio is Williams at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds. His strength is speed (4.38) and he shocked some when he committed to Cal over Oklahoma in November.
A couple of South Carolina Gamecocks will be playing along side each other at safety backing up that group at corner. Devonte Holloman was once committed to Clemson, but is now heading for Columbia and he will be joining Stephon Gilmore.
Holloman is a physical safety that really likes to hit. He could end up at safety or linebacker on the next level because of his size (6-2, 215). He is known for playing the run, but he does a solid job dropping back into coverage as well.
Gilmore is an athlete that could play safety or corner. Some schools liked him on the boundary while others as the final man on defense. He has very good ball skills and he does a good job of reading the quarterback. Both Holloman and Gilmore are strong commitments to South Carolina.
The Black and White squads have strong units in the secondary. Each has speed, each has good cover guys, each has big hitters, and each has players that know how to make plays. Scout.com will be on the scene in Orlando breaking down the best of the best and you can expect a number of these guys to have their names called in that group in the coming days.
