In a Hurry?

"I'd like to hurry up and make one," Trufant said of making a commitment. "I'd like to know where I'm going so I don't have to worry about recruiting everyday. I'm fortunate to be in this position. I'm not complaining but I'd like to decide soon, but I won't make a commitment until I take another official visit." Washington, Washington State and Colorado could get January trips.

Desmond Trufant, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound three-star cornerback from Wilson Senior High School in Tacoma, Wash., has only taken one official visit and says he'll likely only take one or two more before making a decision.

"I'd like to hurry up and make one," Trufant said of making a commitment. "I'd like to know where I'm going so I don't have to worry about recruiting everyday."

But Trufant doesn't want it to sound like he's sick of recruiting. "I'm fortunate to be in this position," he said. "I'm not complaining but I'd like to decide soon, but I won't make a commitment until I take another official visit."

The only trip he's taken so far was to Arizona State on Nov. 14 and the Sun Devils are now Trufant’s top choice. "They are number one right now," he said. "I've been there already and feel like I have the best relationship with their coaches already.

"I also really like the players there too," Trufant said. "They are cool. I also like how intense the coaches are. They think I'd be a great cornerback for them and that they'd want me to return punts too. I just like how the program is run and think they'll be a good team next year."

The Sun Devils lead slightly over Washington, Washington State and Colorado. He was supposed to visit the Buffs earlier in December, but was forced to cancel the trip because of basketball. "I don't have an exact date set with them," he said. "It should be early in January though."

All of Trufant’s favorites have offered him and although the Huskies are only 30 minutes from his house, he says that Arizona State is recruiting him the hardest.

"I like Washington and I know that (new head) coach Steve Sarkisian is from USC, so he's gonna be bringing a winning mentality with him and that'll help."

But Trufant hasn't talked with coach Sarkisian yet. "But I've heard he's a good guy," he said. "People are pretty excited about him taking over."

He says he hopes to visit both in-state schools, Washington and Washington State, in January as well, but hasn’t fixed any dates yet.

"Washington State has a real young team," Trufant said. "They just need a few more key players to get back to where they used to be."

All of his favorites have offered but Oregon, which Trufant once counted as an offer, is no longer recruiting him.

"I'd like to play in a good area and really get along with the guys on the team," he said.

Trufant, ranked as the No. 66 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, finished his senior season (4-6) with 67 tackles and 12 total touchdowns (rushing, receiving, special teams).

He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 1200 SAT and 19 ACT.
