Hines Taking SEC Visit
"He's a real physical kid," said Pelham defensive coordinator Chris Davis. "He's been a three year starter for us. He's led the defense. He has a chance to be a special player at the next level. He's a special kid. He has what it takes to be successful at the next level. He is going to make his grades and not get in any trouble on or off the field." Schools considering Alvin will have to take into consideration the chances of Hines being selected in this summer's MLB draft. "Seven or eight teams have sent in their packets, so that's an option," said Coach Davis. "He feels like he wants to play football. As the competition grows, he will grow. I think football is his bread and butter." Auburn and Kentucky offered the talented safety pretty early in the process, but both schools are now full at his position. "The main one in the SEC is Mississippi State," said Coach Davis. "UAB, UCF, and Navy. Alabama is still talking to him, but I think it will be the very end if they decide to do anything with him." "Kentucky and Auburn both tried to get him to commit this season, but when he didn't they backed off of him. They got full at his position." Alvin will officially visit Mississippi State the weekend of the 23rd. If things go well, Hines may elect to become a Bulldog. "He is pretty serious about Mississippi State right now," said Coach Davis. "I told him before he goes down there that he needs to be sure about what he wants to do. I told him to not let it slip by if he wants to go there. We will just have to see how things go now."
