The 6' 3", 280 pound center committed to Central Florida this past summer when Geoff Collins left the Crimson Tide's staff and joined UCF's. Evan grew up in Hoover (AL) but transferred to Lafayette High (GA) before the start of his senior season when his father accepted the head coaching job at his high school.
Evan was set on the Golden Knights until an SEC school came calling.
"Ole Miss started getting really interested again towards the end of my senior season," stated
Evan Swindall
. "Coach Markuson came by my house a couple of times, and he wanted me to come by their campus to check things out, so I did."
Evan visited the Oxford campus this weekend and left with an itch in his belly.
"Growing up in SEC country, well, I always wanted to play in the SEC. I was hoping it was going to work out, and it did. I committed to them tonight. I called Coach Markuson and let him know. He was happy I made my decision."
There was also a couple more factors that played in his decision.
"I want to major in pre-law and they have a great law school. That was big for me, and I just like the family atmosphere."
What are OM's plans for Swindall?
"I guess they want me to come in and work hard this year, and next year I will have a chance to compete and play."
The Rebels have the center position in mind.
"That is what they want me to play. I played center my sophomore year, and I played some center this year, so I have some experience. I guess playing center for so long, I could snap the ball with either hand if I needed too (laugh). Growing up with a father who is a head coach, I guess you can say that he has prepared me pretty well for the next level. I am just glad that I will get a chance to play in the SEC."
