Eggen's Recruitment Picking Up
Even though they fell in the first round of the state playoffs, La Crosse Logan still enjoyed a fine 2008 campaign. The team went 8-2 and did so with a strong running attack which featured junior offensive tackle Matt Eggen, one of the state's top junior prospects. The 6'5, 285-lb Eggen has already been hearing from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Alabama and UCLA. The Badgers have done very well recruiting within their state borders over the years and Eggen has paid close attention. "I've followed Wisconsin football, it's been a big part of my growing up," he said. While they are a nice, close option, Eggen says he is considering every school which considers him and that includes Alabama and UCLA, both of which are a good ways from Wisconsin. This season, Eggen only took one unofficial visit, but he says it was a good one. "I went to Minnesota for a game. They were playing Michigan. It was real cool actually just seeing how much the crowd was into it and how much of a jump from high school it is. I could see the physicality on the offensive line. You can see the coaches have pounded that into their head." Currently in the midst of basketball season, Eggen won't be able to concentrate much on his recruitment yet, but says he will when spring roles around. "I plan on going to a couple of their camps, but I'm not sure which ones." When he does begin looking more closely at potential colleges, Eggen does have a good idea of what he would like to see. "Probably the first one is education," he explained, "the lifestyle of the campus and all that. I'll also look at the program and how well the program has been and the coaching staff." Eggen says he is undecided on his major but is leaning towards accounting.
