Mujahid Assad reported early in the process that he was in no hurry to rush his college selection. He planned to wait close to signing day to announce his college intentions. Just over two weeks from the finish line, the talented wide receiver made the call.

"I committed to Southern Miss," said Assad. "I am real happy about being a Golden Eagle."

The Alabama All-Star recently took his visit to Southern Miss and the Hattiesburg campus was a highlight for him.

"It's close to home and it's roomy," said Mujahid. "I really like the surroundings there. It's all real nice."

The talented wideout adds that his ability to bond with the Golden Eagle coaches was a major factor in his decision.

"I like the coaching staff, they are real down to Earth," explained Assad. "You can conversate with all of them. They are real good people.

"They were real excited when I committed. They said they were real glad to have me. I was real excited too."

Despite a few other schools showing some late interest, Assad reports he is solid in his commitment and that he will not take any other official visits.

"I am just going to run track and get ready for the season," said Mujahid. "I am going to be running and lifting, so I can get in better shape for next year."
